Indian Producer Raghav Mehta Earns GRAMMY Spotlight As Sounds Of Kumbha Secures Nomination

India’s music story has marked a significant global milestone with composer-producer Raghav Mehta associated with the recognition of Sounds of Kumbha in the Best Global Music Album category at the 68th GRAMMY Awards 2026. The album is a landmark cultural music project created for Mahakumbha 2025, placing India’s spiritual and sonic heritage firmly in the international spotlight.

The recognition is being seen as a defining moment for contemporary Indian music production, spotlighting how deeply rooted cultural narratives can be reimagined through modern sound design for a global audience.

Raghav Mehta, whose work spans cinema, advertising and international collaborations, has previously worked closely with leading Indian film studios including Dharma Productions and Yash Raj Films. Beyond film, he has shaped sonic identities for global brands such as Google, Amazon, IKEA, Kellogg’s and Bosch, collaborating with agencies including Ogilvy, BBH, Publicis and Saatchi & Saatchi. His work has earlier earned global recognition with a Webby Award for Best Original Music, an honour described by The New York Times as “the Internet’s highest honour”.

Sounds of Kumbha, artistically led by Siddhant Bhatia with key production by Raghav Mehta, has emerged as one of India’s most ambitious music collaborations. The album weaves together field recordings captured at the Mahakumbha with ancient chants, contemporary world music arrangements and immersive binaural soundscapes. Enabled by the Government of Uttar Pradesh in partnership with Network18, HistoryTV18 and Universal Music Group, the project features contributions from over fifty global artists, including Grammy winners and nominees alongside leading Indian classical and contemporary musicians.

The album includes collaborations with artists such as Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Kanika Kapoor, Aditya Gadhvi and Raja Kumari, as well as several international instrumentalists. Widely described as a “global spiritual memoir” of one of the world’s largest human gatherings, the project is also being viewed as a powerful example of India’s cultural diplomacy and soft power on the world stage.

Industry observers note that the Grammy recognition is likely to open doors for international touring showcases, global brand partnerships and immersive cultural experiences built around the album. It is also being seen as a breakthrough moment for a new generation of Indian producers working at the intersection of tradition, technology and global soundscapes.

With growing international interest around Sounds of Kumbha, Raghav Mehta’s role as a key producer on the project places him among a rising group of Indian creative voices whose work is resonating far beyond national borders. The Grammy nod not only celebrates a landmark cultural production but also signals an increasing global appetite for contemporary Indian music that remains rooted in heritage while speaking a modern, international language.
